How Is Sclerotherapy Performed?
1. The procedure
The doctor will direct you to lie on the treatment table and elevate your legs. The doctor will clean the area they intend to treat and inject it with the solution. You might experience a slight pinch during the procedure.
2. After the injection
The doctor will massage the treated area to prevent blood from entering the vein. They will also ask you to wear compression stockings.
3. Follow-up
You will discuss this with your doctor before starting the treatment. If you have multiple affected veins, you may require several sclerotherapy sessions.
What To Expect After Sclerotherapy?
You can resume your regular activities after the sclerotherapy session. But you must wear compression stockings for the first 24 hours.
Staying active will prevent blood clots from forming. Other recommendations include using acetaminophen to manage pain and avoiding direct sunlight, saunas and hot baths.
